Deb Muchmore is president and CEO of Deb Muchmore Consulting, a Midwest-based public affairs, communications and strategies practice.    She is a respected go-to expert for organizations that seek help developing effective and comprehensive solutions to difficult situations.

She has counseled dozens of organizations with public, crisis and complicated regulatory challenges to achieve crucial business objectives and respond appropriately to public interests. Her portfolio of work throughout Michigan and the Midwest spans diverse industries, issues and communities.  For her work, Deb has been ranked among Michigan’s top five most effective public relations professionals in Michigan’s annual MIRS/EPIC-MRA Michigan Capitol Insiders survey.

Deb is an acknowledged expert at reputation and crisis management, media/public relations, community engagement, media coaching and brand management, crisis communications, image and speech coaching and strategic planning. She is a skilled and professional facilitator and moderator.

Helping clients develop successful strategies that protect or rebuild organization reputations, she brings a no-nonsense to problem solving – guiding organizations to tackle issues head-on. Clients value her ability to open doors and lines of communications through a coveted and expansive network of influential connections.  

A recognized media spokesperson, Deb frequently is quoted in state, regional, national news and trade media. She is an author for several business publications on a range of topics that include energy, natural resources, education and talent production, tax policy and others. 

Deb is engaged in many business, community and public efforts. She is a gubernatorial appointee serving on the board of directors of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and was chair of Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority. Additionally, she has served on the board of directors of Physicians Health Plan and Wharton Center for Performing Arts at Michigan State University; board chair of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority and Todd Martin Development Fund.  She has chaired and helped grow the Lansing Economic Club into one of Michigan’s most prominent business clubs, and she co-chaired the Michigan Inaugural Committee, the organization designated to plan and present Michigan’s gubernatorial inaugural events and fundraising efforts. A Spartan, Deb maintains close ties to Michigan State University as a frequent guest lecturer in classes throughout MSU’s communications program and previously served as professional advisor to the school’s Hubbell Connection student PR firm.

Deb received her B.A. in Advertising from Michigan State University. She is a Dale Carnegie graduate.

Prior to launching her own practice in 2018, Deb was a partner/owner in Kandler Reed Khoury & Muchmore government affairs, and previously was vice president of Marketing Resource Group, one of Michigan’s most prominent political and public affairs firms.

 

Deb is an avid Peloton rider and bicyclist, having ridden in the formidable 350-mile Lansing to Mackinac DALMAC ride, and ardent MSU Spartan alumna. She and her husband live on a lake in Laingsburg, Michigan with their trusty little dog Spot.
